貝は、通常、幾重もの殻をまとって生きている。貝は外側から殻の層をはがしていくと、その個体の過去の生活をさかのぼりやすい特異な器官であることが分かる。なぜなら、貝殻は環境にまつわるすべてのことを記憶しているからである。そして貝は自然環境の影響をいち早く受ける地球上の生物のうちの１つだという。今日も物言わぬ貝は、住処である海底深いところでじっと彼らの生活状況や地球規模の環境状況を身体に刻み込んでいる。
The shellfish is a creature wrapped in layers of husks. If we tore away its outer husks one by one, we could find out that the shellfish is a peculiar organic being that makes us go back and see its own past life, because its husks have recorded everything about the surroundings it has lived in. I hear that the shellfish is one of the first living things of the earth being influenced by natural environment. Today wordless shellfish quietly implant present conditions of their lives and the environment on earth at the bottom of the sea, their home.
